Weekly routines
Summer Special #5
In the week just gone some schools have already started for the new year, and the rest will start after this weekend. The period known as the ‘summer school holidays' draws to a close and in households with children, routines are re-established as the rhythm of days and weeks settle back into an order.
Today’s prayers are both prayers to reflect on the week past or the week ahead.
This is the last of our summer series. To mark the end of the summer school holidays here in New Zealand, I’ve included a couple of discounts at the bottom of this post. Next week I’ll be returning with a mixture of newly written prayers as well as some old favourites from my ever growing collection. I've been working on a 5 Senses to Prayer project in the last few months that I hope we’ll be ready to release in a couple of months time. In our Virtual Prayer Room I’ll continue to share two or three theme based prayers each week. I hope you’ll join me!

Paper Lanterns Prayer
Jesus told us to be the light of the world. Perhaps that’s an easier thing to be when we’re gathered together thinking about Jesus. But Jesus wants us to be the light of the world everyday of every week. Jesus wants us to be Monday to Sunday light. Make a paper lantern by folding a piece of A4 paper in half lengthways. Make six slits in the paper, cutting from the fold and leaving about 6cm or 2 inches at the top of the paper. Unfold your paper. In each of the strips you have created, write a day of the week. Now write a place you go on each of these days and one person who does not know Jesus that you see at that place regularly. Join your paper together at the two sides with a staple. Add a handle on the top of your lantern. Pray that you would be God’s light to the world around you in your everyday week. Pray for each day of the coming week and for the places you’ll go and the people you’ll meet.

Weekly Hamburgers Prayer
Make homemade hamburgers. Talk about things that are coming up this week. As you build up your hamburger with each new ingredient, pray a one sentence prayer for something that is happening on each day of the week ahead. e.g. Bun is for Monday, Meat (or Vege) Pattie is for Tuesday, Cheese is for Wednesday, Lettuce is for Thursday, Tomato is for Friday, Onions are for Saturday and Sauce is for Sunday.
