Bathroom cupboards are often a treasure trove of sensory prayer items and I have many prayers in my collection that source experiential items from the bathroom. There are many possibilities using our senses of smell and touch. Think of the sensory items of brushes and combs, toothbrush and toothpaste, facecloth and face wash, shaving cream, flowing soap, running water, shampoo… my collection has prayers using all of these things.
However, this series is about making a prayer kit with reusable equipment. I imagine these items leaving the bathroom and being kept in a box along with other experiential prayer tools. This limits the possibilites for our prayer suggestions tdoay to the easily reusable and easily storable.
Today I’ve included two of my favourite prayers where the equipment can be added to a prayer kit and used again and again. They’re not my favourite bathroom prayers of all time, but they work in a prayer kit. As a bonus I’ve added my two very favourite bathroom prayer tools which do need running water to use - not so easy to add to a prayer kit but worth keeping somewhere in the bathroom to be used every so often for prayer.
The bathroom is a place where we go to clean and freshen up. This imagery works well with God at work in fresh ways in our lives. Our prayers can reflect this hopefulness and the joy and gratitude of second chances and fresh beginnings.
He saved us because of his mercy, and not because of any good things we have done. God washed us by the power of the Holy Spirit. He gave us new birth and a fresh beginning.
Titus 3:5 (CEV)
May this week bring possibilites of prayerful refreshment for you.
