Needles date back to 60,000 years ago. Since the earliest needle was discovered in South Africa, other needles have been discovered in several places in the world dating back almost as many thousands of years. The first needle with an eye for thread dates back 25,000 years ago. This simple, ancient tool, is still in use today across cultures and countries and utilised by people of all ages and genders.
A needle and thread offer connection. They bind two things together. This connection is often between fabrics and is predominantly purposeful to create something that will offer people protection such as clothing or a tent. The connection can also be between two very different things, such as sewing a button on an item of clothing. These connections created by needle and thread can be both useful and beautiful.
Love is more important than anything else. It is what ties everything completely together.
Colossians 3:14 (CEV)
Creating meaningful connections with others takes time, patience, perseverance and love.
Our prayers this week take a needle and thread and invite us to pray about our own connections with God and with others.
On the journey
